Assigning Homework

Hi All,
While working on my research project, I was wondering what your opinions were. Do you think that assigning homework is beneficial? Does it teach important life long lessons? Or, does homework intrude on important family time?

I would also like to say a brief goodbye. I am leaving for a vacation in Turkey on Saturday. I will be thinking of you all.

See you all on the 17th June.

I absolutely think that homework is important. However, I think it is equally important that the amount of homework be manageable; in elementary school, the teacher's role as gatekeeper is fairly easy. In the secondary grades, though, I don't know how the teachers would be able to balance the workload nightly across all the subjects. It would be great if they could, though, to avoid things like having students study for three tests on the same day or having to carry home their textbooks for ALL of their courses on the same night.

Personally Speaking, Homework should be done at school during study halls. I think the best work that can be done at home, is working with the Family and Learning from the Parents/Guardians.

I think homework is important. It is a way for a student to see if they truly understand the concepts being taught without interference from other parties, i.e. teachers, other students, etc. It is a way for teachers to monitor understanding. 1/2 hour of homework for elementary students and 1 to 2 hours for secondary students is not uncalled for. Especially with secondary students - it keeps them out of trouble and helps them to learn how to work and schedule their time independantly.
